Large Ashanti Akua’ba Fertility Figure, Ghana, Early to Mid-20th Century - Carved wooden Akua’ba figure of traditional disc-shaped head form with linear incised facial features and stylized torso, raised on a custom black museum base. The flat circular face, with delicate raised brow line and small projecting nose, symbolizes beauty and fertility ideals in Akan culture. Traces of red-brown pigment and ritual handling patina are visible throughout, particularly around the head and torso. These figures were historically carried or displayed by women seeking fertility or safe childbirth. 17 ½ in. H × 6 ½ in. W × 3 ½ in.
