Carved Serpentine Stone Bust, Zimbabwe, Mid-20th Century - Expressive hand-carved stone bust of a man, rendered in dense dark green serpentine with areas of polished and stippled surface contrast. The sculptor captures fine detail in the facial planes, textured hair, and deeply incised eyes and mouth, exhibiting hallmarks of the Shona stone-carving tradition. These intimate busts emerged in mid-century Zimbabwe (formerly Rhodesia) as part of a broader workshop movement blending traditional realism with modern sculptural sensibility. 5 ¾ in. H × 4 ¼ in. W × 5 in. D Condition: Old surface abrasions and minor fissures consistent with natural veining of the stone; stable and displays well.
