Southern Cherry Sugar Table, Gibson County, Tennessee, mid-19th century - Rare Southern sugar table of solid cherry, constructed with a two-board top above a deep dovetailed case fitted with a single drawer, supported on square-turned legs with early brass casters. The piece exhibits fine hand-planed surfaces, pegged joinery, and a warm aged patina typical of Tennessee cabinetmaking of the 1840–1860 period. Originally used to store and secure valuable sugar or dry goods in plantation kitchens or pantries. Provenance note inside drawer indicating Gibson County, Tennessee. Approximately 34 in. high, 32 in. wide, 24 in. deep. Condition: Expected wear, scattered marks, and age cracks to top consistent with use; retains rich original color and surface.
