George III Oak Slant-Front Bureau, England, late 18th century - A fine and well-preserved English oak slant-front bureau, circa 1770–1790, retaining a deep, rich patina and original brass escutcheons. The fall-front opens to reveal a fitted interior with serpentine drawer arrangement, document compartments, and central prospect door flanked by fluted pilasters, all displaying period-appropriate craftsmanship and hand-planed oak surfaces. The lower case features two short drawers over three long, graduated drawers, resting on original bracket feet. Retains its original hand-wrought strap hinges and brass pulls, with dovetailed drawer construction throughout. Approximately 42 in. high, 36 in. wide, 20 in. deep. Condition: Exceptional condition for its age, with honest wear, minor shrinkage, and surface irregularities consistent with more than two centuries of use.
