Bidspirit auction | English Oak Tavern or Writing
English Oak Tavern or Writing Table, early 18th century - A well-patinated English oak tavern or writing table, circa 1720–1740, the single long drawer with later brass batwing pulls, raised on bold turned legs joined by box stretchers and ending in block feet. The thick two-board top with pronounced overhang and chamfered edge displays deep, hand-planed texture and centuries of honest wear. The drawer retains its original hand-wrought nails and period dovetailing. Approximately 33 in. high, 37 in. wide, 21 in. deep. Condition: Surface wear, shrinkage cracks, and expected marks consistent with age; old replacements to drawer runners and hardware; structurally sound and retains outstanding color and patina.
