Cast-Iron “Jocko?? Lawn Jockey Hitching Post Figure, Early 20th Century - Cast-iron lawn jockey hitching post figure depicting a black (“Jocko”) groom, shown standing in a forward-leaning pose with one arm extended to hold a rein or lantern. Retains a heavily weathered, timeworn painted surface with traces of the original polychrome finish to the vest, trousers, and cap. Mounted on its original cast-iron pedestal base with paneled sides and old white paint. An iconic example of early Black Americana garden ironwork, exhibiting strong sculptural presence and an untouched, authentic surface. 39 in. H, 11 in. W, 13 in. D. Condition: Surface wear, rusting, and paint loss throughout consistent with long outdoor exposure; stable overall; ring intact; base solid with age-appropriate corrosion. Presents with strong antique character.
