Set of Four Carved Eagle-Back Armchairs, Attributed to George J. Henkel & Co., New York, c. 1880 - Exceptional set of four carved mahogany armchairs attributed to George J. Henkel & Co., New York, each surmounted by an elaborately sculpted American eagle with spread wings and foliate scrollwork. The deeply modeled crests and robust Rococo-inspired frames exemplify Henkel’s masterful three-dimensional carving. Upholstered in rich crimson tufted velvet with loose seat cushions.Believed to have been part of the Bocage Plantation parlor suite, Darrow, LA. 47 in. H, 37 in. W, 31 in. D. Condition: Excellent presentation quality; upholstery clean and vibrant; minor age separations to carved crests and edges; structurally solid and finely detailed.
