American Cherry & Maple Two-Tone Empire Chest of Drawers, Circa 1840 - A handsome American Empire chest of drawers in a desirable two-tone combination of cherry and maple, circa 1840. The case features bold turned front columns in dark mahogany framing a bank of graduated cherry drawers, all fitted with period wooden knobs and retaining early keyholes. The top section includes twin narrow drawers above four full-width drawers, each displaying warm natural grain and mellowed surface from age. Supported on robust turned feet typical of the period. The backboards, drawer construction, and secondary woods are consistent with mid-19th-century American craftsmanship. 53 in. H, 47.5 in. W, 22.5 in. D. Condition: Good overall; scattered expected nicks, scratches, and surface wear from age; drawers operate smoothly; top shows light wear and some age marks; structurally solid.
