Adjustable Brass and Iron Music or Reading Stand, North’s Patent, Late 19th Century - late 19th-century adjustable music or reading stand marked NORTH’S PATENT, Pennsylvania. The tilting mahogany reading surface rests on a brass adjustable support above a circular mahogany top, all mounted on a reeded iron pedestal ending in a four-footed base with claw feet. The design and dual-surface configuration reflect the high craftsmanship and mechanical ingenuity of the Victorian era, suited for use as a musician’s, physician’s, or gentleman’s reading stand. 47 in. H (adjustable), 19 in. W. Condition: Very good overall with light wear and small scratches to mahogany surfaces; brass mechanism functional; minor oxidation to iron base consistent with age; sturdy and complete.
