Victorian Carved Walnut Firescreen with Large Needlework Panel, Dated 1860s - A richly carved Victorian walnut firescreen featuring an impressive hand-worked needlepoint panel signed “Rachel Standring’s Needle Work 1860s.” The rectangular screen is framed within an ornate walnut surround deeply carved with scrolls, foliage, and floral cresting, resting on boldly scrolled cabriole legs with acanthus ornament and shaped cross-stretcher supports. The central needlework depicts a classical biblical or allegorical scene rendered in muted tones of rose, blue, cream, and taupe, bordered in a gilt slip. A fine example of mid-19th-century domestic textile art combined with high-quality cabinetmaking. approx. 57 in. H, 34 in. W, 22 in. D. Condition: Needlework shows uniform age toning with scattered areas of fading; small losses and minor thread thinning as expected for age.
