Italian Specimen Marble-Inlaid (Pietra Dura) Tabletop on Regency-Style Giltwood Base, Center Table - A dramatic neoclassical center table featuring a substantial rectangular Italian specimen marble top, circa 1810–1830, executed in the Grand Tour taste and finely inlaid in the pietra dura manner with an elongated oval reserve framed by scrolling strapwork, geometric borders, and contrasting marbles in tones of gray, black, ochre, and sienna. The top is affixed to an imposing Regency-style giltwood base of architectural form, supported by opposing winged female caryatid figures with scrolling volutes and lion’s paw feet, joined by a turned and reeded stretcher with foliate collars and gilded accents; the whole designed for maximum sculptural presence and strong room impact. 35½ in. H, 58 in. W, 28 in. D. Condition: The marble top with scattered edge wear, including small chips and old corner repairs with associated touch-up; occasional surface abrasions consistent with age and use. The base with later construction and gilding, showing expected surface wear and minor rubbing; structurally stable and presents impressively.
