Monumental Southern Pie Safe with Twelve-Punched-Tin Panels, Mid-19th Century - A rare and impressively scaled Southern pie safe in original dark surface, mid-19th century, constructed of robust yellow pine and featuring an extraordinary total of twenty hand-punched tin panels, twelve fitted to the upper doors and eight to the lower, each executed with radiating star and circular motifs. The case is boldly proportioned with tall tapered legs, a broad overhanging cornice, and full-length double doors above and below, opening to generous shelved interiors. Retains original square nails, hand-cut iron hinges, and early wooden turn-knob closures. Provenance note in the interior attributes the safe to the Americana Country Furniture Company, and notes that it was in the collection of a private collector in Providence, Rhode Island, acquired circa 1988 from the Shakertown, KY museum. While this information is unverified, it provides useful historical context and long-held association. The exceptional scale, untouched surface, and remarkable survival of all punched tins distinguish this example among known Southern pie safes of the period.Approximately 83 in. H, 63 in. W, 24 in. D. Condition: Very good for age; expected surface wear, oxidation to punched tins, scattered age shrinkage to boards, and minor losses to interior shelves.
