English Regency Leather Traveling Writing Box, Early 19th Century - A handsome early 19th-century English Regency traveling writing box housed within its original tooled-leather outer case with strap closure. The exterior retains a warm, patinated surface showing appealing age character and period wear. Lifting the hinged lid reveals a fitted interior case finished in black lacquer with a gilt-painted border and a brass button latch. The inner writing box opens to a cobalt-blue compartmented interior, likely intended for personal papers, writing implements, and correspondence materials. A rare survival with both inner and outer boxes present, displaying refined craftsmanship and the elegant utilitarian design typical of Regency travel accessories. 6½ in. H, 17 in. W, 12½ in. D. Condition: Leather exterior dry with crackling and expected wear; strap intact but aged; interior writing box structurally sound with scuffing and wear to lacquer; blue lining shows scattered losses.
