Empire Mahogany Chest of Drawers, Circa 1840 - A handsome Empire-period mahogany chest featuring rich bookmatched veneers, classical columnar supports, and bold carved paw feet. The casework includes an upper bank of two short drawers above three full-width graduated drawers, all fitted with period-appropriate turned wooden knobs. Front columns rise from carved paw feet to foliate-carved capitals, framing the drawer stack and emphasizing the chest’s architectural profile. The top retains a mellow, well-preserved surface, while the sides show clean panel construction typical of the period. 54 in. H, 43 in. W, 21 in. D. Condition: Good overall; surface wear, small stains, and age-related marks typical for period furniture; drawers slide smoothly; minor veneer imperfections; structurally solid and attractive with strong presence.
