Large Continental Renaissance Revival Carved Oak Sideboard, Late 19th Century - A large Continental Renaissance Revival carved oak sideboard, late 19th century, richly executed with deep, sculptural ornamentation characteristic of the period. The case features a boldly molded top with gadrooned and foliate edge, over a frieze carved with masks, scrolling acanthus, and block-form corbels. Below, twin paneled cabinet doors display dramatic grotesque masks within scrolling cartouches, flanked by full-height carved figural terms and spiral-carved columns. The interior includes a long shelved compartment and a hidden frieze drawer. Raised on massive carved paw feet at front and block supports at rear. Retains warm, age-softened surface with traces of original finish. approx. 55 in. H, 65 in. W, 23 in. D Condition: Structurally solid; wear, age cracks, and scattered repairs consistent with age; backboards show shrinkage and historic patching; top with surface wear, scratches, and finish variation; carvings intact with minor losses.
