Bidspirit auction | Pair of Continental Polychrome Porcelain
Pair of Continental Polychrome Porcelain Figures, 20th Century - Charming pair of hand-painted Continental porcelain figures depicting a courting musician and maiden, each modeled in vivid Rococo-revival taste. The musician stands in a relaxed pose playing a pipe and holding a tambourine, dressed in a floral-sprigged jacket, rose trousers, and feathered cap, surrounded by applied bocage and blossoms. The companion figure portrays a maiden in a patterned skirt and lavender bodice, clasping a kerchief at her waist, similarly adorned with vibrant applied flowers and scrolling bases enriched with gilt accents. Both pieces display crisp modeling, glossy glazes, and lively color palettes characteristic of late 19th–early 20th century Continental workshop production. Condition: Overall very good presentation; scattered small losses to applied flowers; maiden figure with restoration and overpaint to the bow at the top of the head; no structural cracks noted.
