Framed Chromolithograph of Gen. Robert E. Lee, Published by Blelock & Co., New York, Late 19th - A finely executed chromolithograph portrait of Confederate General Robert E. Lee, after the original by W. G. Jackman, New York. The image depicts Lee in full uniform with detailed rendering of his double-breasted coat, sword, and sash, printed in soft, period-typical tones. Published by Blelock & Co., New York, and retaining strong impression quality with moderate age toning. Housed in an early molded walnut frame with original patina and later acid free backing. From the birthplace estate of Major John Pelham, C.S.A. (1838–1863), the celebrated “Gallant Pelham, ” noted artillery officer under J.E.B. Stuart and one of the Confederacy’s most admired young heroes. The piece descended directly through the Pelham/McGehee line for six generations until the passing of Miss Louise Foster in 2020.29 in. H, 22 in. W overall. Condition: Print shows light foxing, faint toning, and minor handling marks; frame with expected surface wear, small edge nicks, and later wire hanger; overall stable and presentable.
