Southern Federal Mahogany Drop-Leaf Dining Table on Casters, Early 19th Century (Pelham Estate) - Fine early 19th century Southern Federal drop-leaf dining table in mahogany, the thick “heavy board” top formed from wide single planks, resting on a plain apron and turned legs on original brass cup casters. Each wide leaf is supported by a swing leg, allowing the table to function both as a compact console and a full dining table. Retains an attractive old surface with warm reddish-brown patina consistent with long family use. One of ten documented lots from the birthplace of Major John Pelham, CSA (1838–1863), near Cane Creek, Alexandria, Calhoun County, Alabama. Descended directly in the Pelham–McGehee family until the death of Miss Louise Foster in 2020.29.5 in. H, 24 in. W (closed), 49 in. W (one leaf open), 72 in. W (fully open), 46.5 in. L.
