Rococo Revival Lift-Top Sewing Stand, Southern, Mid-19th Century, From the Pelham Estate - A Southern Rococo Revival sewing stand of elegant and unusual form, mid-19th century, descended directly through the family of Lt. John Pelham, CSA (1838–1863). The piece features a sarcophagus-shaped lift top opening to a fitted interior with divided compartments, above a full-width drawer retaining its original structure. The stand is raised on boldly scrolled cabriole legs joined by a pierced and shaped stretcher, all resting on original brass casters. The case is of walnut with warm, untouched estate patina. 31 in. H, 24 in. W, 16 in. D. Condition: Estate condition as consigned; expected wear, abrasions, and surface marks from age and long family use; structurally sound; lift top and drawer operating properly.
