Classical Mahogany Writing Desk from Waverley Plantation, Mississippi, Early–Mid 19th Century - A Southern Classical mahogany writing desk with rich matched flame-mahogany veneers, originating from historic Waverley Plantation, Mississippi, and later descending to White Arches per purchase provenance. The desk features a rectangular top with softly rounded front corners, opening to reveal a fitted interior with divided compartments and its original inset mirror. Below are two short drawers fitted with early white porcelain pulls, over a shaped pedestal support raised on boldly scrolled feet with brass casters. Secondary woods are heavy chamfered heart pine, consistent with early Mississippi and Alabama furniture making. Retains an appealing old surface with warm patina. approx. 33 in. H, 24 in. W, 18 in. Condition: Estate condition; surface wear, scratches, and finish losses from age and use; veneer wear to edges; interior mirror with losses and silvering deterioration; drawers slide smoothly; structurally stable.
