Cast Iron Stagecoach Valuables Box, 19th Century, From the Pelham Estate - Cast-iron valuables strongbox, 19th century, from the Pelham Estate, Calhoun County, Alabama, where it descended through the family of Major John Pelham, C.S.A. (1838–1863) for six generations until the passing of Miss Louise Foster in 2020. The heavy rectangular chest features a hinged inset top, cast side handles with decorative backs, and an interior cavity once used for the secure transport or storage of money, documents, or small valuables. Traces of original red paint remain, with worn raised lettering visible on the underside of the lid. A genuine Southern survivor with untouched, estate-found surface and a wonderfully primitive, evocative presence. 10 in. H, 20 in. W, 12 in. D Condition: Estate condition as consigned; heavy surface oxidation, wear, and patination throughout; interior with expected rust; lid hinge functional though stiff; no repairs noted.
