Old Paris Porcelain Dinner Plate & Soup Bowl, Pelham Family Descent - Old Paris porcelain dinner plate and rimmed soup bowl, mid-19th century, each decorated with a scrolling gilt foliate border embellished with vibrant magenta and lavender plumes on a warm peach ground. Classic Old Paris palette and hand-applied gilt highlights throughout. These two pieces descend directly through the family of Lt. Col. John Pelham, C.S.A. (1838–1863), from the ancestral home near Cane Creek in Alexandria, Calhoun County, Alabama. The porcelain comes from the McGehee family line, Pelham’s maternal side, and was retained in the household for generations until the passing of Miss Louise Foster in 2020. Dinner plate approx. 10½ in. diameter; soup bowl approx. 10½ in. diameter. Condition: Estate condition; typical wear to gilt and enamel; minor utensil scratches; no visible structural cracks.
