Southern Walnut Document Box, Early 19th Century, From the Pelham Estate - A fine early 19th-century Southern walnut document box descending directly from the family of Lt. Col. John Pelham, CSA (1838–1863), born at Cane Creek in Alexandria, Calhoun County, Alabama. The box features a hinged rectangular lid with chamfered edges, opening to a clean, open interior originally intended for storing family papers and legal documents. Constructed in solid walnut with brass hinges and retaining its original warm, undisturbed surface. The underside is lined in early green baize consistent with long, careful domestic use. A rare surviving personal household item linked to six generations of the Pelham–Foster family line. 4.75 in. H, 12.25 in. W, 8.25 in. D. Condition: Estate condition as received; minor wear, scratches, and age marks expected of a 200-year-old piece; hinges functional; surface untouched; no modern restoration.
