The Coinage of the British Empire: An Outline of the Progress of the Coinage in Great Britain and - Bound in an elaborate Victorian black molded gutta-percha cover, the front featuring an openwork Gothic design framing the royal arms supported by lion and unicorn beneath a crown, with surrounding Latin motto and Tudor rose, thistle, and shamrock motifs in high relief; red textile ground visible beneath the pierced ornament. The spine gilt-lettered “Humphreys’ Coinage of Great Britain” with decorative devices. Illustrated throughout with facsimiles of coins in gold, silver, and copper. 7.5 in H, 5.25 in W, 2 in D. Condition: Wear and rubbing to extremities; chipping and minor losses to the brittle gutta-percha at corners and spine ends; spine head worn; interior with foxing and age toning consistent with mid-19th century printing; binding intact.
