Near Pair of Period Chippendale Mahogany Candle Stands, ca. 1770 - Elegant near pair of late 18th century Chippendale period candle stands, each crafted in richly figured mahogany and raised on finely shaped tripod bases terminating in carved pad feet. The circular dished tops are supported by turned and spiral-fluted shafts, accented with carved acanthus and foliate detailing at the capitals and lower knops. The tripod legs display subtle carving along the knees and retain a graceful stance consistent with high-quality colonial craftsmanship of the third quarter 18th century. Documented provenance from Twelve Gables, Columbus, Mississippi, further enhances their desirability and regional collecting appeal.
