Italian Two-Tone Marble Bust of a Young Woman, Mid-20th Century - A finely carved Italian marble bust in the Grand Tour taste, mid-20th century, depicting a young woman in romantic classical dress and brimmed hat. The sculpture is executed in contrasting marbles, with variegated green marble forming the hat and draped bodice, and creamy white marble reserved for the face, neck, and flowing hair. The interplay of color creates strong visual depth while emphasizing the delicacy of the softly modeled facial features. The wide-brimmed hat is adorned with a carved bow and subtle textural detailing, while the drapery falls naturally across the shoulders in rhythmic folds. The serene downward gaze and refined carving reflect academic classical influence popular in Italian decorative sculpture produced for export during the 20th century. The bust is raised on a shaped black marble socle base, providing visual grounding and contrast. 21 in. H, 14 in. W, 9 1/2 in. D Condition: Very good overall. Light surface wear consistent with age and handling. Natural marble veining throughout. Minor scattered nicks and small edge abrasions, including minor losses visible to the rear drapery consistent with the material. Structurally sound and display-ready.
