Bidspirit auction | Renaissance Revival Rosewood Marble Top
Renaissance Revival Rosewood Marble Top Credenza with Hand Painted Panel, ca. 1880 - An exceptional rosewood marble top credenza featuring a dramatic serpentine form and finely executed carved detailing. The shaped white marble top, original to the piece, rests above a richly figured rosewood case with a central bowed door inset with a hand painted pastoral scene depicting a seated figure in a landscape setting. The door is framed by applied carvings with foliate and scroll motifs, flanked by open curved shelving on both sides. The rounded plinth base mirrors the flowing lines of the upper case, creating a cohesive and sculptural silhouette. The quality of the carving, the use of rosewood veneer, and the romantic painted panel reflect high-style European influence, likely French or Italian inspired. A striking and decorative statement piece suitable for a foyer, salon, or dining space. 34 in H, 60 in W, 10 in D. Condition: Great condition. Original marble intact with light, age-appropriate wear. Case structurally sound. Painted panel well preserved with minor surface wear consistent with age.
