Victorian Rococo Revival Rosewood Parlor Chair, Attributed to Belter - A Victorian Rococo Revival rosewood parlor chair, attributed to John Henry Belter, mid-19th century. The deeply carved laminated rosewood frame features a pierced and sculptural crest centered with fully carved roses and floral clusters, flanked by scrolling acanthus and leaf motifs. The flowing serpentine stiles descend into cabriole legs terminating in original brass casters. The oval medallion back is framed by intricate openwork carving and retains upholstered insert, matching the generously proportioned serpentine seat. The current upholstery is a later red fabric with repeating fleur-de-lis motif, complementing the dramatic dark rosewood frame. The laminated construction and bold pierced carving are consistent with Belter’s patented techniques and design vocabulary, though the chair is offered as attributed. 39 in. H, 22 in. W, 18 in. D Condition: Good overall with expected wear consistent with age. Minor surface abrasions and scattered finish wear. Upholstery later and in good usable condition. Casters present. Structurally sound.
