Exceptional Winterhalder & Hofmeier Gothic Revival Oak Bracket Wall Clock, Eight-Day Chain Fusee - An exceptional Gothic Revival Oak bracket wall clock, the ensemble conceived in the manner of a miniature cathedral façade. A similar example featured in Winterhalder & Hofmeier's 1890 and 1901 catalogs as No 147. The architectural case is richly executed with a dramatic cluster of carved pinnacles and finials, including a tall central spire flanked by subsidiary turrets, each detailed with lancet arches and Gothic tracery. Clustered colonettes frame the glazed dial door beneath a molded pointed arch crest, while the base is encircled with carved blind arcading above a scalloped apron supported by turned pendant drops. The circular dial features a silvered Roman numeral chapter ring surrounding a gilt center, accented by pierced and shaped hands. Gilt spandrels enrich the corners within the pointed arch frame. Side panels are inset with Gothic tracery windows backed in red fabric, reinforcing the ecclesiastical architectural character. The clock is mounted on its original carved wall bracket, echoing the Gothic detailing of the case and terminating in turned pendant finials. The movement is a high-grade eight-day chain fusee example, striking and chiming on gongs with full Westminster chimes. The chain fusee mechanism, prized for maintaining even power delivery and consistent timekeeping, reflects quality manufacture and positions the clock above typical spring-driven bracket examples of the period. The Westminster sequence sounds the quarter hours, culminating in the hour strike, producing a resonant and harmonious tonal effect.Accompanied by matching Gothic Revival wall sconces harmonizing in design with pointed arches, tracery elements, and finialed crests, completing a rare and visually impressive architectural suite.A commanding and decorative example of late 19th century Gothic Revival horology, combining architectural craftsmanship, musical complexity, and mechanical sophistication. 36 in. H (including bracket), 15 in. W, and 11 in. D. Condition: Excellent condition. All hardware intact and functioning. Movement running properly with chimes operating as intended at time of cataloging.
