American Victorian Renaissance Revival Sideboard or Parlor Cabinet, attributed to Pottier & Stymus - An impressive and architecturally conceived American Victorian Renaissance Revival sideboard or parlor cabinet, late 19th century, attributed to Pottier & Stymus, New York. Crafted in richly figured walnut with extensive burl panels, the case displays the bold massing and refined ornament associated with high-style Centennial era design. The superstructure features a molded and paneled crest with carved finials above a dramatic, stepped and domed upper section veneered in swirling walnut burl. The frieze is ornamented with applied carvings including rosettes and a central shell medallion framed by an arched surround, issuing carved foliate sprays. Flanking pilasters are decorated with incised and ebonized details, leading the eye to the central cabinet door, which is embellished with delicate linear inlay forming geometric and foliate motifs. The door is framed by engaged, turned columns resting on substantial plinth bases. Side sections project slightly, each with paneled doors and additional inlaid ornament, creating a balanced and monumental façade. The base rests on a shaped plinth with bracketed feet. 56 in. H, 61 in. W, 22 in. D Condition: Very good overall antique condition. Surface retains a rich patina with minor expected wear consistent with age and use. Light finish rubbing and small scattered surface marks visible. Burl veneer panels appear stable with no significant losses observed. Interior clean and functional. Structurally sound and presentation-ready.
