Bidspirit auction | American Classical Mahogany Chest with
American Classical Mahogany Chest with Columned Front, ca. 1830–1840 - A superb example of the American Classical period, this richly figured mahogany chest embodies the bold architectural sensibility that defined high-style furniture of the 1830s and 1840s. The case is anchored by robust turned columns flanking the drawer fronts, lending the piece a strong, temple-form presence inspired by Grecian Revival design. The beautifully matched mahogany veneers display dramatic flame and crotch figuring across the drawer fronts, creating a symmetrical, almost mirrored effect that shimmers under light. The upper drawer is subtly shaped, adding visual depth and refinement, while the graduated lower drawers provide both proportion and practicality. The chest retains its original brass ring pulls and escutcheons. Raised on bold turned feet, the overall silhouette is confident, balanced, and unmistakably American Classical. A striking and highly decorative statement piece for any refined interior. 43 in H, 43 in W, 21 in D Condition: Excellent antique condition with minor surface wear consistent with age. Original hardware present. Veneer and structure sound and sturdy.
