Oak Stepback Pie Safe or Cupboard - Late 19th to early 20th century oak stepback pie safe or cupboard in two-part form, the upper case fitted with a projecting molded cornice above a pair of glazed panel doors opening to a shelved interior, the lower case with two aligned drawers over a double-door cabinet enclosing a single shelf. The warm oak surfaces display attractive grain throughout, with paneled sides and backboards, simple bracketed supports beneath the waist molding, and period-style brass pulls and escutcheons, retaining key. The combination of glass-front display above and enclosed storage below reflects the practical evolution of the traditional pie safe into a more versatile kitchen and dining room cupboard. Well-proportioned and substantial in scale, the piece offers both visual presence and functional storage, equally suited to a country interior or as a contrasting accent in a more contemporary setting. 78 in. t x 40 in. w x 21 in. d Condition: Overall good antique condition with age-appropriate wear to surface, minor scuffs and finish variation consistent with use, and typical interior wear; hardware present; key included.
