Bidspirit auction | Federal Cherry Chest of Drawers

Federal Cherry Chest of Drawers - A handsome American Federal cherry chest of drawers, early 19th century, of refined and well-proportioned form. The case features four graduated drawers with cockbeaded edges, each fitted with oval brass pulls and centered key escutcheons. The drawers retain fine dovetail joinery and appear to run smoothly, reflecting careful craftsmanship. The chest is raised on slender turned Federal legs terminating in simple ring turnings, lending the piece an elegant, elevated stance. A shaped scalloped apron adds visual interest and lightness to the lower façade, balancing the clean rectilinear case above. The cherry has developed a warm, even color with attractive grain throughout, consistent with age and careful maintenance. The sides are plain and neatly finished; interior construction and drawer dovetails are consistent with early 19th century American work. 43 in. H, 40.5 in. W, 19.25 in. D. Condition: Very good overall condition with minor surface wear consistent with age and use.
