Bidspirit auction | Italian Teakwood Slab Dining Table
Italian Teakwood Slab Dining Table Signed “Y. Léger” and “Vallauris” - Substantial mid-20th century teakwood slab dining table of organic, sculptural form, signed underneath “Y. Léger” and “Vallauris.” The rectangular top is composed of wide teak planks with natural live-edge characteristics retained at the ends, displaying dramatic grain movement, knots, and tonal variation consistent with select old-growth teak. The ends are framed with slightly projecting cross members, visually anchoring the composition and emphasizing the slab construction. The table rests on two angular, trestle-style supports with faceted, splayed legs that lend a modernist architectural presence while maintaining rustic integrity. The underside bears incised signatures reading “Y. LEGER” and “VALLAURIS.” Vallauris, in the south of France, is internationally known for its mid-20th century artistic production—particularly ceramics and studio craftsmanship—most notably associated with artists such as Pablo Picasso and Roger Capron. While Vallauris is primarily celebrated for ceramics, it also became a broader artistic center in the post-war period. 29 in H, 84 in L, 42 in W. Condition: Great condition. Minor surface wear consistent with use, including natural checking and character inherent to solid slab construction. Signature clearly visible to underside. Structurally sound and stable.
