Two Victorian Chairs: R.J. Horner Style Armchair and Eastlake Side Chair - Group of two distinctive late 19th century Victorian chairs, comprising one highly decorative armchair in the manner of R.J. Horner and one carved Eastlake style side chair.The armchair features a bold circular back with pierced and carved foliate cresting centering a lattice medallion, above a padded and button-tufted backrest. The arms are supported by pierced panels ornamented with roundels and linear carving, and the seat and armrests are upholstered in rich rust-colored velvet. The robust carving, strong geometry, and sculptural presence are characteristic of Horner’s New York workshop productions of the 1880s–1890s, known for their inventive blends of Renaissance and Aesthetic Movement motifs. The accompanying Eastlake side chair displays a carved and pierced splat with stylized foliate ornament, shaped crest rail with central pierced cartouche, and cabriole front legs. 42 in. H, 29 in. W, 22 in. D Condition: Both chairs in very good condition with strong frames and attractive finish. Upholstery clean and presentable with light wear consistent with age and use. Minor surface wear to wood.
