Eleven (11) Indian Head Cents 1860-1898 Bronze & Copper Composition - Group of eleven Indian Head one-cent pieces spanning 1860 through 1898, including the following dates: 1860 (Copper-Nickel ?Fatty? type), 1865, 1887, 1889, 1890, 1893, 1896, and three examples dated 1898. The 1860 represents the short-lived copper-nickel composition (88% copper, 12% nickel) with the pointed bust design introduced that year, an important subtype within the series. All later dates are bronze issues (95% copper, 5% tin and zinc), reflecting the composition change adopted in 1864. The 1865 issue is a post?Civil War transitional period example, while the 1893 and 1896 dates carry stronger collector demand within the 1890s run. The 1898 pieces represent the final year of the Indian Head series prior to the 1909 replacement by the Lincoln cent. Surfaces across the group display natural brown to chocolate patina, with one 1860 example showing attractive green verdigris consistent with age. Detail ranges from modestly worn Liberty portraits to clearer feather definition on several later-date coins. A well-rounded starter group covering early, mid, and late series representation of this classic 19th-century American design by James B. Longacre. Condition: Mixed circulated grades, approximately Good to Very Fine overall. Even wear consistent with age; some environmental patina and minor surface spotting noted. No major rim damage observed. Sold as a group of eleven.
