Ancient Greek Silver Tetradrachm of Athens (Owl Type), 449-413 BCE, in 14K Gold Pendant Mount with - Ancient Greek silver tetradrachm of Athens, struck circa 449-413 BCE during the height of Athenian power in the Classical period, mounted in a substantial custom 14K yellow gold pendant setting. The obverse depicts the helmeted head of Athena facing right, wearing a crested Attic helmet ornamented with olive leaves and floral scroll. The reverse displays the iconic owl standing right with head facing forward, olive sprig and crescent behind, and the ethnic (of the Athenians) to the right. These Owl tetradrachms became the dominant trade coinage of the ancient Mediterranean and remain among the most collected and recognizable issues of classical antiquity. The coin is securely housed within a textured rectangular 14K gold mount with sculptural bail, allowing both sides to remain visible. Total weight 24 grams. Accompanied by Aber & Levine Ltd.
