Pair of Chinese Pottery Horse and Rider Figures, Ming Dynasty (19th Century) - A matched pair of Chinese pottery figures depicting mounted riders in the Ming dynasty style, dating to the 19th century. Each figure portrays a robed attendant seated astride a caparisoned horse, with one hand raised in a characteristic gesture. The horses are modeled with lively expression and detailed harnesses, accented with traces of green pigment, while the riders wear traditional caps and flowing garments. Surfaces throughout retain remnants of original polychrome decoration, now softened to a desirable aged patina. Both figures are presented on later fitted wooden bases.The group is accompanied by a Hong Kong Art Craft Merchants Association Certificate of Antiquity dated September 5, 1995 (No. KR/6-18), identifying the figures as Ming dynasty (1368–1644) examples. Such certificates, issued in Hong Kong during the late 20th century, reflect period connoisseurship and commercial authentication practices and accompany the present lot as part of its provenance.10.5 in.
