Baltimore Mahogany Pedestal Work Table, Circa 1840–1855 - A refined mid-19th century mahogany work table, attributed to Baltimore, Maryland, circa 1840–1855, reflecting the city’s distinctive transition from Classical to Rococo-influenced design. The rectangular top surmounts a case fitted with four drawers, flanked by turned engaged columns, above a shaped apron with carved foliate spandrels and a central shell motif. The table is raised on a boldly carved pedestal with urn-form standard and scrolling legs terminating in pronounced paw feet, a sculptural feature characteristic of Baltimore cabinetmaking of the period. 31 in. H, 40.5 in. W, 20 in. D Condition: Wear consistent with age and use, including surface scratches, finish wear, and minor abrasions. Drawers functioning. Appears to retain original structure with later pulls.
