Asian Red Painted “Butterfly” Cabinet, likely Chinese, 19th century - A decorative Asian cabinet featuring a rich red painted surface and paneled double doors centered by a large butterfly-form metal mount. The case is raised on slightly splayed legs and opens to an interior fitted with shelving and lower storage. Constructed with plank back and traditional joinery. While incorporating design elements often associated with Korean furniture, the overall upright form and configuration are more consistent with Chinese provincial cabinetry. Retains an aged surface with craquelure and wear consistent with use. 69 in. H, 48 in. W, 16 in. D Condition: Surface wear, craquelure, paint loss, and minor separations consistent with age and use. Tin ornament likely period but possibly later applied or refreshed. Structurally sound.
