English Baroque Revival Carved Fall-Front Desk - An exceptionally elaborate English Baroque Revival fall-front desk, richly carved throughout with high-relief ornament. The upper case surmounted by a dramatic pierced crest centered with a cartouche and flanked by opposing mythical creatures, above a frieze of scrolling foliate carving. The slant-front panel finely carved with a lively scene of winged putti engaged with musical instruments, framed by bold volutes and grotesque masks, and flanked by carved caryatid figures. The lower section features a projecting writing surface above a deeply carved apron with masks, foliage, and shell motifs, raised on turned and fluted legs joined by a shaped stretcher with central rosette. The reverse with paneled construction. 75.5 in. H, 40 in. W, 21 in. D Condition: Overall very good condition with minor surface wear consistent with age
