American Classical Carved Mahogany Sofa, New York or Philadelphia, circa 1825–1840 - An American Classical carved mahogany sofa, New York or Philadelphia, featuring boldly scrolled arms terminating in richly carved volutes, above a continuous upholstered seat and shaped back. The crest rail displays figured mahogany veneer framed by carved foliate ornament, while the seat rail is embellished with deeply carved acanthus and rosette motifs. The sofa is raised on carved paw feet and upholstered in a later yellow silk damask Scalamandré fabric. 36 in. H, 87 in. W, 22 in. D, 17 in. seat height Condition: Structurally sound. Surface with expected wear, minor scuffs, and age-related finish variation. Upholstery later and in good overall condition with light wear consistent with use.
