Bidspirit auction | American Cherry Four-Poster Tester Bed,
American Cherry Four-Poster Tester Bed, 19th Century - American four-poster tester bed crafted in warm cherry, featuring boldly turned posts rising to a full tester frame with molded cornice. The headboard is formed with a shaped crest rail flanked by turned finials, while the footboard presents a simpler, clean-lined form emphasizing the strong verticality of the posts. The richly grained cherry displays a mellow, even patina consistent with age. The proportions suggest a three-quarter or rope bed format, typical of the 19th century, with substantial posts and straightforward joinery. The tester retains later custom fabric drapery. 92 in.
