Pennsylvania Federal Figured Cherry Butler’s Desk / Chest, Early 19th Century - Fine Federal-period butler’s desk in richly figured cherry, likely Pennsylvania origin, retaining strong regional characteristics including turned and reeded front columns, compressed bun feet, and bold, highly figured drawer fronts. The fall-front opens to reveal a well-fitted interior with birdseye and figured maple small drawers and pigeonholes, centered by a prospect compartment, demonstrating refined cabinetmaking typical of southeastern Pennsylvania work. The case exhibits solid secondary woods, hand-cut dovetail construction, and original interior layout. The warm color and lively grain throughout the primary surfaces are particularly notable, with excellent visual appeal. Brass pulls appear period-appropriate. Provenance: A later paper label for James Latimer Milford, Ambler, Pennsylvania, is present. 44 in H, 43 in W, 21 in D. Condition: Good overall condition with expected wear consistent with age and use; minor surface abrasions, scattered marks, and light finish variation; interior retains original configuration; hardware appears largely intact and appropriate.
