Alexander Roux Carved Mahogany Extension Dining Table with Seven Leaves - A monumental and richly carved extension dining table by Alexander Roux, New York, executed in finely figured mahogany and exemplifying the bold, sculptural qualities of mid-19th century Rococo Revival design. The expansive oval top features a molded and intricately carved foliate edge above a conforming frieze adorned with deeply carved floral and scroll ornament. The table is raised on an impressive central pedestal with a turned and carved standard, issuing four pronounced scrolling legs terminating in expressive paw feet, each carved with high-relief acanthus and naturalistic detail. The table includes seven original extension leaves extending to an impressive full dining length suitable for large gatherings.
