R.J. Horner Carved Mahogany Dining Chairs, Set of Twelve - An impressive and highly decorative set of twelve carved mahogany dining chairs, R.J. Horner, comprising ten side chairs and two armchairs. Each chair features a boldly carved crest rail centered with a classical female mask beneath a plume of acanthus and scrolling ornament, flanked by richly carved foliate and scrollwork borders. The shaped backs are upholstered in velvet, framed by deeply molded surrounds. The armchairs are distinguished by sweeping arms terminating in carved griffin or grotesque-form handholds. Seats are upholstered en suite in a warm rust-colored velvet. The chair frames are further embellished with carved mask motifs to the seat rails, robust turned and fluted legs, and H-form stretchers. 54 in. H, 24.5 in. W, 20 in.
