French School Portrait of a Lady, After Nicolas de Largillière, Oil on Board - An elegant oval portrait depicting a refined lady in the French Rococo taste, after the manner of Nicolas de Largillière (French, 1656–1746). The sitter is presented in three-quarter view, adorned in a richly colored ensemble with a lustrous green bodice and flowing red drapery, her hair arranged in an elaborate coiffure with delicate ornament. The composition is mounted within a substantial and highly decorative giltwood frame featuring an inset oval aperture and bold foliate corner ornamentation, likely 19th century. The reverse bears a printed label identifying the subject as “Mlle. Dubois” and attributing the work to Nicolas de Largillière. 40 in. H, 32.5 in. W, 3 in. D Condition: Painted surface shows areas of wear, craquelure, and possible inpainting; some abrasions visible, particularly in darker passages; panel stable; frame with scattered losses, wear, and surface cracking consistent with age.
