American Federal Double-Arm Argand Lamp with Eagle, c. 1820-1830 - An American Federal double-arm Argand table lamp, circa 1820-1830, in gilt and patinated metal, the central standard mounted with a finely cast spread-wing eagle above a fluted column and square plinth base, with two scrolling arms supporting frosted and cut glass shades decorated with floral and foliate motifs. The central standard is fitted with a gilt-metal urn-form cap and hanging crystal prisms, with gilt acanthus and foliate mounts throughout. The likely original etched glass shades are period and especially desirable, each having an unusual brass or gilt-metal lower collar or retaining rim. Converted from oil to electric. 20 in. H, 19 in. W, 10 in. D. Condition: Good overall antique condition with age-appropriate wear, rubbing to gilt surfaces, oxidation and darkening to patinated metal, and scattered scratches and minor surface wear. Electrified and in working condition.
