Large Continental School Oil on Canvas After Raphael's Madonna del Divino Amore - Large Continental School oil on canvas after Raphael and workshops celebrated Madonna del Divino Amore, also known as The Virgin and Child with the Infant Saint John the Baptist, Saints Elizabeth and Joseph. The painting depicts the seated Virgin in rose and blue drapery with the Christ Child, accompanied by the young St. John the Baptist holding a reed cross, St. Elizabeth behind, and St. Joseph standing in shadow at upper left. Executed in the 19th century in the Grand Tour or academic copy tradition, the work presents a finely rendered devotional subject after one of the great High Renaissance compositions. Housed in a giltwood frame. From Ormonde Plantation, Natchez, Mississippi. Frame measures 66 in. H, 49 in. W, 2 in. D. Condition: Relined, with evidence of conservation and backing visible from the reverse. Canvas appears stable with overall craquelure, scattered surface wear, varnish discoloration, and expected age-related restoration.
