American Empire Flame Mahogany Secretary Bookcase - American Empire secretary bookcase, mid 19th century, in richly figured flame and crotch mahogany veneers, the upper case with bold projecting cornice above two paneled cabinet doors opening to shelved interior, over a fitted secretary section with hinged fall-front writing surface inset with green tooled writing leather, small interior drawers, and long document compartments, above two lower drawers flanked by scroll supports and raised on scrolled feet. See photograph of purchase receipt/provenance from Waverly Plantation, Columbus, MS. Previously purchased in 2003. Dimensions: 81 in. H, 42.5 in. W, 22 in. D. Condition: Good antique condition with wear consistent with age and use, including scattered veneer repairs and veneer lifting, finish wear, scuffs, shrinkage cracks, minor losses, drawer and hinge wear, and wear to the green writing surface.
